Coupang Play is setting the stage for an exciting new series that brings together a powerhouse cast and a high-stakes storyline of charm, deception, and wit. On July 15, the streaming platform officially announced its upcoming drama Confidence Man KR (working title), revealing a star-studded lineup featuring Park Min Young, Park Hee Soon, and Joo Jong Hyuk.

A fresh Korean take on the acclaimed 2018 Japanese comedy-drama The Confidence Man JP, this adaptation promises to deliver a mix of suspense, comedy, and cleverly orchestrated schemes. The story centers on a trio of elite con artists who use their razor-sharp minds and colorful personas to execute elaborate scams—targeting greedy, corrupt individuals from all walks of life.
At the heart of the trio is Park Min Young, who will be portraying the team’s enigmatic leader, Yoon Yi Rang. A genius with an IQ of 165, Yoon Yi Rang possesses a rare blend of eccentric creativity and calculating charisma. With her unmatched problem-solving skills and commanding presence, she orchestrates the group’s most intricate deceptions. Park Min Young’s return to the screen in such a bold and unconventional role has already generated significant buzz, especially following her success in Marry My Husband.
Joining her is veteran actor Park Hee Soon, cast in the role of James, a seasoned con artist known for his razor-sharp wit and humor. With years of experience and a flexible personality that adapts to any situation, James is both a reliable partner in the group’s operations and a source of comic relief. Park Hee Soon, known for his gravitas and nuanced performances in series like My Name and Moving, is expected to bring both depth and spontaneity to the character.
Rounding out the trio is rising actor Joo Jong Hyuk as Myung Gu Ho, the youngest and most earnest member of the team. Despite his innocent appearance and endearing demeanor, Myung Gu Ho proves himself to be a valuable asset through his quick thinking and adaptability. His character brings a fresh, playful energy to the group, balancing out the intensity of his more experienced teammates.
In addition to the main cast, Confidence Man KR will also feature high-profile special appearances. Song Ji Hyo is confirmed to make a cameo, along with Lee Yi Kyung, who previously starred alongside Park Min Young in Marry My Husband. Their guest roles are expected to add surprise twists and elevate the drama’s entertainment value.
Helming the series is director Nam Ki Hoon, known for his work on Big Bet, Kiss Sixth Sense, Voice 3, and Oh My Baby. He’ll be collaborating with scriptwriter Hong Seung Hyun, who has previously penned intense thrillers such as Criminal Minds and Cheo Yong seasons 1 and 2. The combination of Nam’s dynamic visual storytelling and Hong’s gripping narrative style promises a captivating drama packed with tension, humor, and heart.
Mark your calendars—Confidence Man KR is slated to premiere on September 6 at 9:10 p.m. KST. With a brilliant ensemble cast, an intriguing premise, and a top-tier production team, this drama is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated series of the year.
